Mian Sheraz Javaid delivers an Insightful Lecture on Energy Dispute Resolution at the Institution of Engineers
IEP HEADQUARTERS, LAHORE PAKISTAN - The Institute of Engineers Pakistan (IEP), the nation's largest representative body of engineers, continues to play a pivotal role in the continuous training and development of engineers across the country. In a recent move to address the pressing issues in the construction industry, IEP organized a hybrid session, allowing attendees to participate both online and in person. The event, held at IEP headquarters in Liberty Market Lahore, was filled with insightful lectures on construction disputes, reflecting the organization's commitment to fostering industry growth and innovation.
Dr. Javaid Uppal, the esteemed president of IEP, welcomed and co-hosted the event with CIArb. Margherita Blandini, Director Education, also graced the occasion with a short yet impactful speech. A highlight of the event was the signing of a memorandum of understanding between both institutions, pledging to provide ADR trainings to engineers, a step towards enhancing the professional capabilities of engineers in the region.
Mian Sheraz Javaid, a renowned figure in the engineering community, was invited as a CPD trainer for the workshop. His lecture, filled with wisdom and practical insights, was a testament to his expertise in the field. Sheraz's involvement not only added prestige to the event but also provided the attendees with valuable knowledge and perspectives on various aspects of construction projects and disputes.
The workshop also hosted discussions on energy disputes, power purchase in international treaties, and power plants. One of the critical problems addressed was the requirement of capacity building in the ICSID arbitrations that Pakistan is using. The lack of a proper local pool of experts also poses a significant challenge. The event concluded with a strong call to action, emphasizing the need for training, appointment of qualified lawyers, and a change in mindset to overcome these challenges and propel the engineering and construction industry to new heights.
